Home of “The King”
Whitehaven is the largest neighborhood in South Memphis. Graceland is still the major entertainment attraction in this area. The annual Elvis Week attracts many thousands here annually to remember “The King” on the anniversary of his death on August 16, 1977. Instead of chain restaurants, you’ll find good, down-home cooking in South Memphis. Great barbecue restaurants include Marlowe’s Ribs and Restaurant and Jim Neely’s Interstate BBQ. Whitehaven is within minutes of Memphis International Airport and the FedEx Airport hub, two of the city’s largest employers. The area is also close to I-55 which leads into Mississippi, and is a 20-minute drive from the Tunica, Mississippi casinos, making it a convenient place to live for casino employees.
