The Top of the Mississippi
DeSoto County lies directly south of Memphis in North Mississippi and includes the towns of Southaven and Hernando. These towns have become popular destinations for Memphians who want to escape from the bustle of city life to raise their families in the suburbs and still have an easy commute into Memphis. Desoto County is only about 15 minutes from the Tunica casinos, making this a great location for casino employees.
Southaven, located just South of Memphis, is known as “The Top of Mississippi” because it is located near the southern border of Tennessee. This fast-growing community has the highest median income in the state of Mississippi.
Hernando has received national recognition for being a great place to live. This town has four times been named a “Playful City USA”; named to CNN/Money Magazine’s 2011 “100 Best Places to Live” (scoring 79th in the ranking); featured in CNN’s “Great American Small Town” series; and chosen to be featured in ABC’s “Everyday Health” program, which aired in January of 2012.
