Eating on a budget
January 12, 2024
If you just go to the grocery without a plan or list, odds are that you will buy those unhealthy snacks, spend more than you anticipated, and get back to your apartment with a lot of food, but no real meals. With a little organization, you can spend less and eat better.
What’s in your apartment fridge?
To start, pick a day of the week as your meal planning day. This day is usually the day before you go to the grocery store. Also, a great time to meal plan is after you work out because you will usually make healthier choices. On this day, make a list of nightly meals, lunches and snacks that you anticipate needing for the week. Be sure to write in the days that you know you will be eating lunch out or going to a friend’s house for dinner. If you do have any coupons, this is the time to clip those and paperclip them to your list. After you made your weekly meal plan, designate one or two grocery shopping days. One is your big grocery shopping day, and the other day is for milk, bread or items you might have forgotten.
Once you get to the grocery store, stick to your list! You might be tempted to buy that extra box of cookies but remember to stick to your plan. Not only will you be happy you did, but so will your wallet!
