Drip, drip, drip
January 10, 2024
It can get cold, even Memphis, DeSoto County, and all around our region. When temperatures get below freezing and stay that way for any length of time, there is a risk that pipes can freeze.
Watch for falling temps.
The easy fix and the one we advise for all MRG apartment residents? When temps are below freezing, let your faucets drip just slightly and the risk of a burst pipe are reduced significantly.
Why does this help? It’s not actually the flow of the water (which is why a small drip is sufficient.) According to Weather.com, opening a faucet will provide relief from the excessive pressure that builds between the faucet and any ice blockage when freezing occurs. If there is no excessive water pressure, there is no burst pipe, even if the water inside the pipe freezes. So, on those cold, cold days and nights, keep the pipes in your apartment from freezing with just a little drip – from all faucets (hot and cold). And if you are going to be gone for any extended time when the weather is calling for freezing temps, let your MRG office know.
