Winterize Utility Bills
December 1, 2012
When you live in an apartment, you often have the benefit of living between other apartments – which helps to insulate your home and hold heat in. But there are always things you can do to conserve energy while keeping your place warm and comfortable. Here are some money-saving tips:
1) Consider window treatments like insulated blinds that not only hold heat in during the winter, but keep the heat out during the summer months (which can come in really handy around the Memphis area!) Or you might simply put plastic over your apartment windows or a “draft dodger” in the sill to keep out the cold.
2) Keep the thermostat turned down when you aren’t in your apartment and turn off and unplug appliances when they are not in use.
3) Arrange the furniture in your apartment so that it doesn’t block vents.
4) Minimize the number of times you open your refrigerator and freezer to keep cold air in – and the oven – to keep warm air in and speed cooking times.
Stay warm in your apartment this winter!
